My Journey with ‘Old Dog’: New Essay Release

It’s been a minute, y’all. But I’m back. I’ve got a lot of plans while I’m on summer break and I’m excited to share them with you! It’s summer and I can focus on my writing journey. I have a loose schedule that I follow, scheduling some fun stuff into my week (hoping for a break in the rain because I really want a lake day!).

New release!

“Old Dog,” my short personal essay about the faith I’ve gained from the kind old man behind the famed Rock Garden in Calhoun, Ga and my bestest girl, Saki will be in the anthology And God Made Pets from Christian Writers For Life. I’m very glad our Abba created pets and animals in general. I’ve never known life without a dog, from my childhood Mountain Feist, Princess (and her pup, Whiskers), to our Rottie rescue JD (there is a whole story there), and my Aussie/Border Collie Saki. There are many others, but those are THE DOGS.

Saki, my old (and bestest) dog
Saki, along with another Old Dog, have taught me a lot about my relationship with my Lord. My personal essay, “Old Dog” will appear in the anthology “And God Made Pets” from the Christian Writers for Life, release date July 2025.

I’ll keep you posted on the release info.

The Southern Christian Writers Conference

I’m super excited about attending the Southern Christian Writers Conference in Birmingham this weekend. I don’t attend too many writer’s conferences and this one is a splurge. I’ve been a member of the Facebook group for a while and love the integrity and openness the group expresses. I just wish I could clone myself and attend all the workshops. Some topics include “What Magazine Editors Wish You Knew” by David Bennett, “Creativity and the Sacred: Writing as Spiritual Practice,” by Christopher Sloan and “Get to Know Your Characters,” by T.I. Lowe. Guys, this is just a snippet. There are almost 30 presentations. Caris Snider is delivering the keynote presentation, “Anxious for Nothing: Encouragement for the Writing Journey.”

I’ll update post-conference.

Newsletter

Guys, getting a newsletter up and going has been a NIGHTMARE-to the point that it’s funny. I downloaded a popular email campaign platform that worked beautifully at the library, but nowhere else. I’ve tried multiple places, devices, servers, and browsers. NOTHING. This is a global company with several products that our household uses regularly. Tech support has been kind but not very helpful. I’ve given them one more chance and then I’m moving on to another platform because it shouldn’t be this difficult. But, check your inboxes in the coming week because I will get it done.

I have more updates coming later! I appreciate y’all and am looking forward to hearing from you!
